Physics Alumni

The statue of the Alma Mater by Loredo Taft at the University of Illinois“One may judge a University by its faculty, its research, or its students, but the best measure is the quality and character of its alumni, as reflected in their professional achievement, in their citizen service, in the way they live, and in the values by which they live.”

—David Dodds Henry, President, University of Illinois, 1955–1971

Calling all Engineering physics graduates

Engineering Student Alumni Ambassadors plan and host events and programs to increase student-alumni interactions and build relationships. They believe that strong student-alumni ties will lead to more involved alumni and raise awareness of the excellence of the UI College of Engineering. Current events that ESAA are working on include special alumni events at Engineering Career EXPO, Engineering Open House, and Homecoming; a student-produced eNewsletter; a Young Alumni Club; and an alumni banquet in Chicago with student representatives.

Contribute to our Alumni Survey

We are working to document the history of our remarkable department and its people since 1960 to supplement Professor David Lazarus's book, The Loomis Legacy, and Professor Gerald Almy's 1967 talk presented to the History of Science Society, "A Century of Physics at the University of Illinois, 1868–1968." Much of the story is yours, and we would like to hear from you! If you have indelible memories, funny or inspiring stories, or photos to share, please write to us.

Enhanced UIAA On-Line Directory—Connect With Alumni Like Never Before

Physics alumni can now benefit from one of the University of Illinois' greatest strengths—the good will of its alumni. Visit the UIAA website and click on "Online Directory" to begin using the most powerful tool in the history of the University of Illinois for connecting with other alumni. And better yet, you can make these connections on your own, whenever it's convenient for you.

Search for former classmates; contact a professor; or—if you're a member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association—tap into a network of more than 40,000 alumni who have already indicated that they're willing to correspond with alumni and undergraduate seniors (known as Collegiate Members) about their profession, place of business, city of residence, interest in being a mentor and internship opportunities.

Have a son or daughter considering the U of I? Members can also search for alumni who have volunteered to recommend the University to prospective students. All alumni are encouraged to be a part of this great service, regardless of membership. Make sure you update your information through the UIAA's secure Web site so that others can benefit from your good will, too. Volunteer to offer assistance to fellow alumni and to current students who could truly benefit from valuable advice and information from successful alumni like you.

Join the UI Alumni Association and support Physics

A portion of your membership dues comes directly to Physics to support our alumni initiatives. Please be sure to enter the Physics promotional code UD23 where indicated on the application form.

How can we help YOU?

While it is easy for us to list events, highlight our achievements, and encourage you to stay connected to your department, we want to make sure that you are getting the help you need from your alma mater. Please tell us what is most important to you as we communicate with our alumni and friends.

Give us your feedback and let us know how we can improve this site and what additional information would be helpful as you navigate the department's Web pages. We're listening...
